Harry Powell writes in his Glass-Making in England that Powell's introduced the colourless Venetian milky opal in 1862 which predates straw opal and blue opal by over a decade

However Powell [1928] indicates opal about 1877-1879 but seemingly using a flint glass already in production.

See Evans p254 plate 355 for similar shape glass [catalogue 1860] See Evans p226 .She indicates opal was in use as early as 1860.This could be a very early example of opalising.
